Why Should I Recycle Cans for Habitat?
Since July 2001, Grand Island Area Habitat for Humanity has been recycling aluminum cans as part of Cans for Habitat. Money earned through the program has paid for construction materials on dozens of homes in five counties. These homes have helped families reach home-ownership and have helped improve neighborhoods throughout central Nebraska. Over the years, 800,000 of aluminum cans have been recycled thanks to community efforts.
Dropping off Cans
Cans should be tied in plastic bags and securely placed in the can bins. If a can bin appears to be too full, please use an alternate location.
Locating a Drop Site
Need help finding one of our bins to drop off your cans? Most of our locations can be found at Pump & Pantry gas stations! For more can drop sites, click here to see our map.
Join our "Can-Do" Team!
The unsung heroes of this program are the volunteers known as the "can-do" team. They pick up from the 14 drop site locations and take cans in for processing. More of these volunteers are needed to help process the approximately 40,000 pounds of cans kept out of landfills every year.
